
The Educational Materials Lab A project of The American Childhood Enhancement Society Description: a designated “lab” area within a university; easily accessible to the students from the education and educational psychology dept. - that is put aside for the purpose of developing educational materials that incorporate content area with a SEED component - (SEED: Social and Emotional Educational Development) Focusing on low-tech games, group theatre projects for children ; Purpose: 1) to create educational materials that address SEED needs in lower Grades (1-8) 2) To “shine a light” on SEED for the next generation of teachers who are attending the university 3) at community centers- to promote self confidence and a sense of friendship familiarity and community across cultural lines 3)To create an opportunity for professionals in the field to interface with the academic community in a collaboration on new materials Location: on campus in a designated room where materials would be available Source of materials: to be procured by ACES from local businesses Materials available: various colored papers, card stock, poster boards, colors Laminators? Computers and printers Structure: lab would be staffed by volunteers or work-study students and would be Open 4 or 5 hours a day 3 days a week to be determined-preferably with Hours when teachers could come and make use of the space A monthly “Review and Share” Social would be held to which all of the lab (people working on new materials) would be invited to present any work they think is ready to share with principals and the professors from the depts.(who will also be invited).
